Every Smile Starts With An Initial Consultation!

At your first appointment, we will get to know a bit about you and ensure we understand your reason for coming to us. After completing the paperwork, Dr. Zhylich will perform a complete visual exam of your teeth and jaws. If there is no recent X-ray from your dentist on your file, they may take a panoramic X-ray to assess all the teeth and surrounding structures.

If treatment is prescribed, we will schedule an appointment to proceed with diagnostic records. If treatment is not prescribed at this time, you will be placed on an observation schedule and we will see you periodically until you are ready for treatment. Your initial consultation will give you the opportunity to meet our team, learn more about orthodontics, receive a complete initial exam, and find out which treatment options will best meet your needs.

YOUR SECOND VISIT: DIAGNOSTIC RECORDS

At this appointment we gather all the diagnostic data necessary to determine your treatment plan. Digital photographs are taken of your face and teeth. A digital scan is taken to create 3D models. These models are a duplicate of your teeth; they allow measurements to be made which are impossible to perform directly in the mouth. The models also provide Dr. Zhylich with an accurate “before” treatment image so they can assess treatment progress.

A panoramic and a cephalometric X-ray are taken to evaluate the health of the teeth and jaws as well as their relative positions, shapes, and sizes. The X-rays are done using digital equipment that ensures minimum exposure to radiation.

YOUR THIRD VISIT – TREATMENT PLAN

After we have completed the analysis of your diagnostic records, we will see you for a treatment plan appointment. At this visit, Dr. Dzmitry and/or Suzanne, our experienced Treatment Coordinator, will provide your treatment plan options, and follow-up information to ensure that all your questions are answered.

If we have not done so previously, we will give you a CAO Standard Information Form, which outlines the cost of treatment; if applicable, this should be forwarded to your insurance carrier. Once you have been presented with all the information we will book the appointments to start treatment. We will also send a letter to your family dentist that confirms the commencement of treatment.

WHEN YOU ARE IN TREATMENT

When you get your braces (or other appliances), plan to spend between one to two hours at that appointment. Once your orthodontic appliances are in place, regular appointments are necessary so the teeth and/or jaws are aligned in their desired positions.

It is very important that these appointment are kept as scheduled so treatment progresses well and on schedule. These regular visits are scheduled every five to twelve weeks and vary between ten and 45 minutes in length, depending on the procedure being performed.

COMPLETION OF TREATMENT

After the active portion of orthodontic treatment is complete, and the appliances have been removed, you will be given retainers. Retainers are worn to ensure that your teeth do not shift from their new position.

We will see you periodically for 3-6 months to check and adjust your retainers to ensure the results are stable. After this time, your regular visits will be finished, but we would be happy to see you if there are problems with your teeth or retainers.

VISITING THE DENTIST DURING ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT

It is very important that you continue to visit your family dentist once every six months for teeth cleanings and routine dental checkups, even during your orthodontic treatment. If extra dental care is needed, we will be happy to coordinate with your family dentist to make sure you receive the best possible care.
